Iraq and Iran signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in several judicial fields.

The MoU is in the fields of fighting terrorism, cash and weapon smuggling as well as organized crime.

It also involves cooperation in the domains of preserving human rights, victims rights along with honing skills of the judges and public prosecution.

The MoU was signed by Iranian Judiciary chief Sadeq Amoli Larijani and Iraq’s judiciary chief Medhat al Mahmoud.

The Mou is an extension of previous bilateral deals that have been reached in 2012, al Mahmoud said.

For his part, Larijani praised the Iraqi judiciary and its role in maintaining the sovereignty of law and judiciary independence, calling for the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations in the judicial fields.
