Dead Sea - MENA
Jordan and Israel signed on Thursday in the Dead Sea region an agreement to implement the first phase of the Red Sea-Dead project.
The inking ceremony was attended by representatives of the World Bank and the US.
The Jordanian Water and Irrigation Minister Hazem al Nasser, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Jordanian government with Israeli Energy and Water Minister Silvan Shalom, said that the project will secure the needs of the kingdom for development.
Al Nasser underlined that a water pipe will be established to transfer the sea water to a desalination station with capacity of 65 to 85 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually.
