Malaysia's Tourism Revenue Estimated at Rm92 Billion Last Year

Malaysia's Revenue from the tourism sector is estimated to hit RM92 billion last year compared with RM72 billion in 2015.
Malaysian Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said even though tourist arrivals to Malaysia rose by only 4%, it was important to note the sector was one of the major contributors to the nation's revenue, state news agency (Bernama) reported.
"If it (tourism) generates RM92 billion, 6% of that or more than RM5 billion is government revenue under the Goods and Services Tax," he said.
Nazri was optimistic that the revenue would continue to increase this year following the influx of foreign tourists particularly from China and India
"The two countries not only contribute to the large number of tourists but also the huge spending in Malaysia," he said.
