The number of patents held by South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. in the United States jumped more than 50 percent in 2013 from four years earlier, data showed Friday, as the tech player battles for an upper hand in the ongoing global patent war. The world's No. 1 maker of smartphones held 34,203 patents in the U.S. as of end-December last year, up from 22,513 in 2009, its regulatory filing with the Financial Supervisory Service showed.
