The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE) and Bursa Malaysia Berhad (Bursa Malaysia) have announced that the two market operators have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to undertake a joint study to explore capital market opportunities to expand various areas of potential cross-border cooperation, namely in exchange traded funds (ETFs), indices, market connectivity, and market promotional activities.

The CEO of Bursa Malaysia Berhad Tajuddin Atan said that the economic relations between Malaysia and Taiwan has been good, with Taiwan being Malaysia's 7th largest trading partner in 2015.

The joint cross-border study under the second MOU will enable TWSE and Bursa Malaysia to assess and prioritise potential collaborations that would provide greater access to investments and investors in both our markets, he added.

The Chairman of the TWSE Sush-der Lee said that this second MoU with Bursa Malaysia further expands the scope of our cooperative relationship and will help us determine the best way to create value for the Taiwanese and Malaysian trading communities, according to Malaysia's (Bernama) News Agency.

An earlier Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation and exchange was signed by the TWSE and Bursa Malaysia in 1999.
