U.S. stocks closed lower Thursday, recovering from session lows, following a selloff fueled by investor worry about European banks and talk of a December rate increase by the Federal Reserve.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 195.79 points, or 1.1%, to 18,143.45. The large-cap S&P 500 Index closed down 20.24 points, or 0.9%, to 2,151.13. The Nasdaq Composite Index finished off 49.39 points, or 0.9%, to 5,269.15.
