Gold for December delivery fell Friday on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange as equities fell sharply on Wall Street. Gold closed at $1,724 per troy ounce, down $20.70. Silver shed 77 cent to $32.09. The dollar was mixed in Asia and mostly higher in Europe with the dollar index up 0.35 percent to 79.63 on the International Exchange. The euro fell to $1.3024 from Thursday\'s $1.3067. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 79.32 yen from 79.28 yen.
