Tokyo stocks index

Tokyo stocks index slipped Monday in cautious trading as investors awaited monetary policy decisions in the United States and Japan and domestic corporate earnings.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 36.72 points, or 0.18 percent, from Friday at 19,983.32. But the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.23 points, or 0.01 percent, higher at 1,619.07, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.

Major decliners included mining, shipping and insurance issues, while pulp and paper and textiles led gainers.
