Malaysia's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June 2016 increased by 1.6% to 114.8 compared with 113.0 in the same month last year. 
Among the major groups which recorded increases was the index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco which rose by 21.9% from June 2015, food and non-alcoholic beverages in increasing 4.2% and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels up 2.4%, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement. 
Other groups, miscellaneous goods and eervices (+2.3%), restaurants and hotels (+2.2%) and education (+2.1%). 
However, the transport group decreased by 8.5% compared to June 2015 as communication declined 2.2% and clothing and footwear (-0.6%), according to Malaysia's (Bernama) News Agency. 
On a monthly basis, the CPI for June 2016 increased 0.2% to 114.8 from 114.6. 
The CPI for January to June 2016 registered an increase of 2.7 per cent as compared to the same period last year, led by increases in the main groups with high expenditure percentages such as food and non-alcoholic beverages(+4.3%) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+2.7%).
