Nikkei closed slightly lower on Friday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 17.77 points, or 0.19 percent, to 9,527.39. Mining companies, precision machinery makers and rubber products makers were losers while the gainers include utilities, insurers and brokerage houses. The turnover was about 1,086 billion yen (about 13.26 billion U. S. dollars).
