Tokyo stocks crept higher Tuesday, with the Nikkei Stock Average climbing 42.41 points, or 0.39%, to end the day at 10,866.72, according to Nikkei.com. Investors bought bank stocks on expectations for higher earnings. The dollar rose back to the 91 yen range, prompting stock buying and pushing the benchmark index above 10,900 at one point. But the index later lost steam, as investors sold off to lock in gains. The broader Topix index finished at 920.76, its highest point since March 10, 2011.
