Tokyo stocks made gains Wednesday morning on a weaker yen and as investors picked up bargains following the market's recent run of losses, although concerns about Britain possibly leaving the European Union saw advances capped.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 114.26 points, or 0.72 percent, from Tuesday to 15,973.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.76 points, or 0.85 percent, to 1,282.69.

The majority of industry categories on the main section advanced, with insurance, marine transportation and transportation equipment-linked issues comprising notable gainers.
