U.S. stocks closed lower Monday as Wall Street sentiment was weighed on after Greeks rejected creditors' bailout proposals in a referendum carried out across Greece Sunday.

Both the Dow and the Nasdaq fell about 0.3 percent, while the S& P 500 was down 0.4 percent.
