Nouakchott - MENA
As many as 40 European fishing vessels have left Mauritanian waters in line with a deal inked between Nouakchott and the EU.
The deal allows other 30 vessels to continue fishing in Mauritanian waters, a well-placed source told MENA.
Mauritania and the EU reached a compromise on their fisheries agreement Thursday.
Under the deal, EU vessels fishing shrimp and small pelagics in Mauritanian waters will continue doing so until the end of 2014, while all other EU ships will have to leave Mauritanian waters as of today.
