Gao Zhikai, a former senior executive of China National Offshore Oil Corp., recalled the difficulty his company had years ago when choosing an office location to reach out to the African market. "My colleagues found that they had to rely heavily on the European offices, as modern transportation connecting one African country with another was underdeveloped, and it was more convenient to travel via a European city," said Gao, council member of the China National Association for International Studies.
