European Union finance ministers have suspended 495 million euros in development funds, pressing Budapest to take immediate action to rein in its budget deficit. The money is part of Hungary’s infrastructure-development aid. Hungary, Eastern Europe’s most indebted country, was given till June 22 to take action and have the sanction lifted. This is the first time the EU is punishing a member state over its budget.
