Japanese shares surged 2.36 percent Tuesday, reaching their highest level since the country was devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 last year. The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange climbed 236.91 points to end at 10,255.15, while the Topix of all first-section shares added 2.42 percent, or 20.60 points, to 872.42.
