The Municipality of Al Ain City has completed the infrastructure works in Sha’ab Al Ashkhar, a new residential area being developed at a cost of Dh500 million. According to the municipal department, the work on the project is almost complete with final touches being given to roads and parks. “The design of the project was in accordance with the approved international standards, considering standards of health and safety and the environment, to ensure sustainable development,” said Project Director Saeed Nahyan Al Amri. He said the project was launched and being developed under the strategic sustainable development programme of the Abu Dhabi Government to develop integrated cities of international standards in the emirate. The new development includes six parks, playgrounds, mosques, shopping centres, plantation of trees in addition to villas and other residential structures. The parks and playgrounds alone cover an area of 100,000 square metres. “All the roads and streets lined with trees and 2,000 beautifully decorated lamp-posts have safe and colourful walkways for pedestrians. All the safety aspects have been considered before designing these roads, streets and pavements. All the existing houses in the area have also been included in the project before the designing stage,” said Al Amri. The other infrastructure works completed include the redevelopment of existing irrigation and sewerage networks with additional and sophisticated networks to meet the requirement of the area.
