Normal life in Nepal's Terai region has been affected on Tuesday as a result of the general strike launched by several political parties over the draft constitution.
As the government is collecting public feedback in 240 electoral constituencies across the country on Monday and Tuesday, the Madhes-based parties launched fresh strike challenging the government's national campaign of public hearing.
They demand demarcation of the federal provinces be settled down before the promulgation of the new constitution.
With the same demand, four parties including Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Terai-Madhes Democratic Party, Sadhbhawana Party and Terai-Madhes Sadbhawana party obstructed the public hearing program on Monday in many parts of Terai region.
On Monday, the cadres raised black flags, vandalized vehicles and pelted stones against two former prime ministers in their respective electoral constituencies in Siraha and Rautahat, both in Terai district.
Following the strike, vehicles have been cleared off the road in Terai whereas educational institutions, industry and market have remained closed.
