Jacqui Ainsley and Guy Ritchie

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie has confirmed that the upcoming “Aladdin” live-action remake that he will direct, will be a musical, and that he is still looking for Middle Eastern-looking cast members.
Ritchie’s film may have similar vibe with the 2017 film “Beauty and the Beast,” reported aceshowbiz.com.
“It’d be tough not to make it a musical. It’s too early, because I’ve really just immersed myself into that project,” Ritchie said.
“So, I’m still looking for cast members, we still haven’t found exactly which direction we’re going in. I’m confident that at some stage it will reveal itself to me, but right now it’s just a bit too premature,” he added.
A casting call had been announced for the film earlier this year.
The poster advertising the casting call was making the rounds on social media due to its desire for Middle Eastern-looking auditionees in what seemed to be an attempt to avoid whitewashing by the filmmakers.
The casting call asked for actors between the ages of 18-25 to apply for the coveted lead roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine and stated that singing and dance skills are “a plus.”
