Joel McHale is to serve as host of the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington this spring, organizers announced Friday. The star of the sitcom "Community" and the reality-show commentary series "The Soup" will emcee the event May 3. "We're thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial," WHCA President Steven Thomma said in a statement. "He's sharp, funny, and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media. Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing." Previous hosts of the WHCA dinner include Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Jay Leno.
