Reba McEntire announced the death of her father, Clark McEntire, on Thursday. He was 86.
The singer posted a photo of her mother and father on her Instagram account, explaining that her father had been sick for five years.
"Daddy passed away last night in Coalgate, OK at 11 pm CST. He had been in the nursing home for a while and we're very thankful he is not suffering anymore. He was a born and bred cowboy through and through. He had been sick for 5 years. It makes total sense to me, he always told us kids never to run your horse to the barn. He was just taking his time to go on home," she wrote in the caption of the photo.
Clark McEntire was a champion rodeo roper and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1979.
Reba McEntire had a close relationship with her father and wrote the song "Daddy" for him on her second album, which was released in 1979.
