Comedian Tig Notaro

Comedian Tig Notaro celebrated her successful double mastectomy and reconstruction by doing her set at the New York Comedy Festival topless.
She started her performance by announcing her successful surgery and said she was considering doing the show with her shirt off.
"You know, it's funny," said Notaro. "I was going to do this show with my shirt off, anyway. I'm about one more 'Whooo' away from going topless."
After a shout the audience, she proceeded to remove her shirt. She stuck to the deadpan humor characteristic of her tour "Boyish Girl Interrupted."
"Comedians often show audiences their scars, but never so literally," said Jason Zinoman of the New York Times. "It was a powerful, even inspiring, statement about survival and recovery, and yet, it had the larky feel of a dare."
Notaro tries to balance the seriousness of breast cancer with her humor.
"I saw just how much positivity had come from being more of an open person and sharing my life experiences with people. As a comic, I continue to do what excites me on stage and what feels true to me as a person," she told Oregon Live.
