The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Daesh militants killed at least 35 Syrian soldiers and pro-government troops in an attack on several areas in the city of Deir al-Zor on Saturday.
The Observatory said the extremist group had advanced into the northern tip of the city and captured the suburb of Al-Baghaliyeh.
The advance puts Daesh in control of around 60 percent of Deir al-Zor, with the regime holding the rest, according to the Britain-based monitor.
