Syria ceasefire: Truce comes into effect, 'cautious' optimism over deal

Truce, brokered by the US and Russia, came into force on Monday amid an international welcome.

Most of the fighting groups in Syria, except Ahrar el Sham, agreed to hold fire to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians.

Ahrar el Sham is seen as a terrorist group by the US and Russia.

The five-year-old civil war in Syria left thousands dead, wounded and millions displaced.

The Free Syrian Army group, a leading rebel alliance, said it will abide by the ceasefire agreement and expressed support for fighting terrorist organizations operating in Syria, including Nusra Front.
