Turkish authorities on Wednesday arrested a lawmaker from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) after a court handed him a 25-year jail sentence for giving material about the secret services to a journalist, reports said.
CHP lawmaker Enis Berberoglu had not been detained during his trial but after the verdict was announced he was immediately placed under arrest, state-run Anadolu news agency said.
A dozen lawmakers from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) have been arrested under the state of emergency that followed the failed July 15 coup. But this is the first time a CHP deputy has been held.
