A Turkish court on Wednesday handed down life sentences to 34 suspects accused of plotting to assassinate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a luxury Aegean hotel on the night of last year's failed coup, television said.
The 34, including former brigadier general Gokhan Sahin Sonmezates who was accused of directing the plot, were given four life sentences each at the trial in the southwestern city of Mugla, state-run TRT Haber television said.
