The International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group has provided two new grants worth $ 450 million as an emergency support for the most vulnerable groups in Yemen.
In a statement, which Saba received a copy of it, the World Bank Group said that the grants will fund two projects aiming at supplying the most vulnerable women and children with access to essential services in health care and nutrition areas.
The projects also aim to provide income earning opportunities for poor families, as well as presenting the basic social services needed by millions of Yemenis.
The statement explained that a $ 250 million grant will work on expanding the scope of the project of emergency response to crises, which is currently being implemented to provide access to financial income for two million Yemenis from the poorest groups, including women, youth and displaced people.
The second grant of $ 200 million will finance the emergency project for health care and nutrition, which aims to preserve the existing health systems' ability to provide health and nutrition services to about seven million Yemenis.
"The conflict has resulted in halting work in more than a half of the Yemeni health care facilities, increasing the appearance of hotbeds of diseases that can be prevented, and soaring malnutrition rates", the statement said.
The statement confirmed that the World Bank will continue to provide technical support needed to guide the implementation of the two projects and ensure the continuity of their response to the variable challenges.
