With the participation of more than 600 experts and decision-makers from the Arab world and Germany in the fields of business and politics, the 20th Arab-German Economic Forum was held in Berlin on Tuesday.
The forum was hosted by the Federal Republic of Germany and organised by the German-Arab Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
A delegation of Omani officials and businessmen were led by Yahya bin Said Al Jabri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Special Economic Zone Authority in A'Duqm (SEZAD) and Said bin Saleh Al Kiyoumi, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).
Al Jabri delivered a speech on behalf of the Sultanate's government, in which he stressed that the 20th Arab-German Economic Forum is particularly important in promoting the Arab-German economic relations, especially in the growth of investment and trade during the last decade.
He added that the official statistics stated that the volume of trade exchange between the two sides exceeded 52 billion euros in 2015, not to mention the increasing growth of Arab investments in the German Republic, which amounted to about 100 billion euros.
He said that the Sultanate and the Federal Republic of Germany had a long-standing relationship of friendship and cooperation, dating back to the seventeenth century.
He added that volume of trade imports between the two countries reached about $922.6 million, adding that the volume of merchandise imports from the Federal Republic of Germany to the Sultanate reached $863 million at the end of 2015, while exports of goods from the Sultanate to the Federal Republic of Germany reached US$95.6 million at
the end of the same year.
Said bin Saleh Al Kiyumi, participated on the sidelines of the forum, in the joint meeting of
the Executive Office and the Board of Directors of the German-Arab Chamber of Commerce, where they discussed many topics that concern the development of economic relations between the Arab countries and Germany, stressing the need to overcome all obstacles to the promotion of trade cooperation with Germany.
