Twenty orphans in Saudi Arabia have been chosen to go on a week-long tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), visiting recreational, cultural, and educational attractions, in recognition of their academic ability.
The tour, which has been organized in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the sponsorship of Saudi Arabian Airlines, is part of Community Jameel’s Tanweer Program for Orphans. The program recognizes orphaned children aged 14-18 who have consistently achieved high levels of school performance, taking them on an annual trip abroad, with the aim of motivating them to make further progress.
Previous trips include visits to France, Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Spain. This year’s trip to the UAE will include unique cultural experiences in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Abdalla Taleb, manager of social and health initiatives at Community Jameel, said: “Everyone — no matter what their background — should be able to fulfil their full potential. That is why we are happy to support these children with this trip to the UAE.
“These tours have been organized annually by Community Jameel in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Labor and Social Development for orphans for nearly 12 years. They aim to broaden their horizon and bring joy and happiness to this most precious group of children.”
He added: “This opportunity has been brought about thanks to Saudi Airlines sponsoring the orphans’ trip to the UAE this year, the ministry of Labor and Social Development’s continuous support and all those who have helped us in various ways.”
Tanweer Program for Orphans was launched in 2005, in partnership with the private sector, represented by Community Jameel, and with the government sector, represented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, to make a difference for orphans and to brighten their lives.
This is achieved through the participation of academically outstanding orphan students in trips abroad at the end of every school year, exposing them to different societies and cultures across the world.
