Geneva - BNA

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) demanded the UN Security Council to provide international protection to the Palestinian state and set a timetable for ending the Israeli occupation.
This came in a speech delivered by Saudi Representative at the United Nations Ambassador Faisal Trad at the UN Human Rights Council during an interactive dialogue with the UN Human Rights Rapporteur in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Saudi ambassador said that the Palestinian people's issue is the greatest suffering tragedy in the history of humanity, because of the Israeli occupation which has been continuing for more than 60 years and the continuing human rights violations, saying that unfortunately, all this has not been enough to convince the European Union and a number of Western countries of the importance of the seventh item which concerns this important case, and the continuation by many of these countries to boycott the sessions of the council that discuss this item.

Ambassador Trad confirmed that this boycott represents an open invitation to the Israeli occupation authorities to continue violation of the international law and the Palestinian human rights and sadly emphasizes the double standards when it comes to Israel.

He stressed that the seventh item is and will be always be a major item on the agenda of both the United Nations General Assembly and its subsidiary bodies until the removal of the occupation, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not accept in any way the marginalization of this item, and demands that peace and justice-loving states to comply with their duties and responsibilities to end the Israeli occupation and put an end to the policy of impunity and double standards.

Ambassador Trad said that the weakness of the international community to compel the Israeli occupation to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy means giving the green light to Israel to continue its tyranny.

He renewed the kingdom's condemnation in the strongest terms of Israel and its continued systematic violation of human rights of the Palestinians, stressing the kingdom's condemnation of the continued acceleration of Israeli settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territories, the implementation of unilateral measures and the creation of new facts on the ground, following the policy of imposing a fait accompli, which is a clear violation of resolutions of the United Nations and a blatant challenge to the will of the international community, as well as it puts obstacles in the way of resuming negotiations and achieving peace in the region.

He called on the Security Council to prepare an international protection system of the occupied State of Palestinian, including Alquds in accordance with the Fourth Geneva Convention and the related resolutions of the international legitimacy, aiming to set a timetable for ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and achieving a just and comprehensive peace according to international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative and granting independence to the Palestinian people and statehood with Alquds as its capital.

He stressed the kingdom's support for the call by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to convene an international peace conference to end the Israeli occupation and the establishment of the independent State of Palestine, and welcomed the desire by France to host this conference, stressing that the solution of the Palestinian cause and ending the suffering of the Palestinian people are at the top international priorities of the kingdom and that it will not spare any effort to help the Palestinian people on the political, economic and social levels, SPA reported.
