The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Wednesday said it will disburse over $5 million in funding available for reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.
An UNRWA statement said a total of $ 2.65 million will be allocated for the reconstruction of severely destroyed houses, while homes need complete repair works will receive $ 2.42 million.
The funds will reach a total of 720 refugee families across the coastal enclave, where families will be able to access this assistance through local banks this week, it added.
Emergency shelter, including support for home repairs, reconstruction and interim shelter solutions is a top priority for UNRWA, the statement explained.
The statement stressed that the agency remains committed to supporting affected families yet requires new funding to continue the shelter cash assistance programme, according to Jordan's News Agency (Petra).
