The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) celebrated today the Qatari Human Rights Day, which falls on the 11th of November each year, the anniversary of the establishment of the Committee.

Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Head of the NHRC Public Relations and Media Unit said in a press statement that the celebration, is the15th since the establishment of the NHRC, on November 11, 2002, which was held in the cultural village Katara, included many educational activities related to the principles of rights as well as recreational, social, voluntary and educational activities, with the participation of several institutions and specialized centers in the country, including children and people with special needs , besides the Doha-based United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region.

Al-Mahmoud noted that such meetings confirmed the interdependence of state institutions and the common denominators that combine them in terms of their goals and mission with important humanitarian issues that highlight the vision of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in spreading and establishing a culture of human rights in society.

In recent years, the NHRC has been keen to make the celebration open in order to allow participation for all groups of society and for the positive interaction of the observance. The purpose of this day’s celebration is to highlight State’s efforts in enhancing human rights by urging the institutions to exert more efforts to promote the culture of human rights
