President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) here on Tuesday inaugurated the new building of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) situated along the Kuningan Persada Street in South Jakarta.
The president inaugurated the new building in conjunction with the 12th anniversary of the anti-graft body on December 29, 2015.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were former presidents B.J. Habibie and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, as well as former vice president Hamzah Haz.
The presence of prominent figures such as Habibie, Yudhoyono, and Haz at the inauguration ceremony demonstrates their strong support to the institution that operates under Law No. 30 of 2002.
President Jokowi in his speech stated that ahead of the New Year 2016, the Commission not only has new leaders but will also start operating from a new building.
"The renewed spirit, which has never been dampened, can motivate us all to fight corruption," the president emphasized.
Jokowi reminded that merely having the spirit is not sufficient to prevent and eradicate corruption.
"The spirit must be supported by a strong institutional capacity, which should be backed by competent human resources that are also strong," added the president.
