Indian authorities on Saturday ordered a probe into the assault on Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of his historical flick Padmavati.
A group of protesters belonging to Rajput Karni Sena, a fringe outfit, stormed the film's sets at Jaigarh Fort in the western state of Rajasthan on Friday, alleging that his film distorts history.
Rajasthan's Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said he had ordered a probe into the incident, stressing "anger should not be shown by breaking the law."
Padmavati is based on the story of legendary Queen Padmini who committed suicide along with a number of women after refusing to submit to Emperor Alauddin Khilji when he arrived at the Chittorgarh fort with his army and was about to storm it in 1303.
The protesters alleged that the film contains love scenes between Queen Padmini and Alauddin Khilji and Bhansali should delete such scenes as they distorted facts.
Bollywood has been united to condemn the incident that was captured on camera.
The film fraternity has demanded actions against the group that carried out the assault on the veteran Bollywood director who is an acclaimed figure in the industry.
