Manama - Arab Today

Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, in the presence of officials from both sides.
The two ministers reviewed the joint work plan between the Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) and relevant governmental bodies, including the Justice Ministry.

Dr. Mirza explained the background and historical sequence of the establishment of the unit and its purpose. He appreciated the wise leadership for its keen interest in encouraging the use of clean energy.

The Sustainable Energy Unit team gave a presentation on its objectives, plans, regulations and legislation.

Dr. Mirza commended the fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, welcoming the Justice Minister's follow-up to the initiative and his contribution to utilizing solar energy by installing the same systems in mosques.

He said this contributes to the achievement of the national objectives of renewable energy, energy efficiency and utilizing solar energy in religious establishments.

The Sustainable Energy Unit was established in November 2014 jointly by the Government of Bahrain represented by the Electricity and Water Authority and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Unit is directly affiliated to the Minister of Electricity and Water and reports to the Higher Committee for Natural Resources and Economic Security, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The unit aims at encouraging investment in renewable energy and promoting steps to enhance its utilization and increase the efficiency of energy use in Bahrain.
