Abu Dhabi, Dubai - Arab today

Four motorists sustained minor injuries in a pile-up involving eight cars in Seih Al Sedera area outbound Abu Dhabi on Thursday morning, according to Abu Dhabi Police.

The injured motorists were treated on site by medical teams.

The accident occurred at around 7.15am when eight vehicles collided into each other, due to foggy weather conditions and low visibility.

The accident caused a traffic block for a while.

Police reached the spot within minutes after the accident, and the damaged vehicles were towed away.

In another accident in the same area at around 7.20am, a vehicle rammed into a bus, which slowed down the traffic movement. One person sustained minor injuries, who was given medical treatment on site.

Police have been urging motorists to drive carefully, leave safe distance, avoid speeding and take extra caution in foggy weather conditions and low visibility.

In the third incident on Thursday in downtown Khalidiya at around 4pm, a car caught fire when her car crashed into a bus in front of her, while she was turning left from a traffic signal.

Although the woman in the burning car was unhurt, she was taken to hospital by an ambulance for a medical check-up, police sources told Gulf News. The vehicle’s bonnet was totally burnt.

Police, paramedics and Civil Defence teams reached the scene immediately.

Police cordoned off the area and firefighters contained the flames within minutes.

The burnt vehicle was towed away by traffic police.

Traffic was diverted to other routes, causing delays for about 40 minutes

In its daily forecast, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said that fog and a limited visibility of 500 metres affected internal and coastal areas, with levels of humidity of that reached up to 95 per cent

Accidents were reported on the Dubai-Al Ain Road near the intersection of Emirates Road, on Al Khail Road, near Academic City and along Al Maleiha Road

Further accidents also affected commuters driving on Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road, near Ghantoot, and along Al Samaha close to Abu Dhabi

The weather is expected to continue until Friday, with heavy fog expected in the early morning and late at night.

Temperatures are expected to reach to lows of 11 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius across the UAE, with northwesterly winds that is likely to spread dust and sand over exposed areas of cities
