Newcomers after the 2017 Lebaran mass exodus are barred from setting up illegal huts under the flyovers, bridges, or anywhere else in Jakarta, according to Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat.
"All newcomers from the regions are not allowed to establish illegal huts, either under the bridges or under the flyovers," the governor remarked at the Jakarta city hall here on Tuesday.
Hence, Djarot said he had given instructions to the relevant agencies to tighten the supervision, as well as guarding the entire area under the bridges and flyovers in Jakarta.
"I have asked the relevant agencies to guard and supervise the areas under the bridges, flyovers, and toll roads, lest anyone live there and even set up illegal huts," the Jakarta governor noted.
Furthermore, the former mayor of Blitar said that if the life of the migrants getting worse, such as living in a cart, they will be taken to a social home.
"In the past there have been people who live in carts, live on the train carriages. If such a situation recurs, then we will bring them to social institutions," Djarot said.
Therefore, he urged the migrants to equip themselves with their work or special skills before they come to Jakarta.
"Jakarta city is open to anyone, anyone can come to Jakarta, but those who come and then set up illegal huts are not allowed," the governor said.(*)
