A team of Saudi doctors from King Abdulaziz University medical department is training German and European physicians in Germany to use a new technology that reshapes ear cartilage.
“We used Nanotechnology to make a saw-shaped needle that grabs and reshapes the ear cartilage through a very small pinhole, without using an open technique or surgery, and it’s a minimally invasive procedure,” said Dr. Abdulkarim Reza Fida, consultant for Ear, Nose and Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery at King Abdulaziz University.
The instrument used for the procedure is called the Fida Needle, which is named after the Saudi physician.
Fida said the concept behind the Fida Needle is to help reduce the psychological suffering of patients with protruding ears with a less invasive technology.
The Fida Needle was launched at Arab Health Conference and Exhibition in January in Dubai. The device correlates to the “innovation and education” section of the proposed Saudi Vision 2030.
Fida said the Saudi medical team is giving training to hundreds of German and European doctors in the fields of nose, ear, larynx and cosmetic.
Fida is the first Saudi physician given a medical license to perform surgeries as a visiting physician and doctor at the HELIOS Hospital Berlin-Buch and other German hospitals.
He said the Saudi team has a responsibility to perform the task and transfer the “Saudi experience” in the field of the invention to the developed countries.
