Health Administration of Syria’s Idlib province revealed that over 100 persons were killed on Tuesday, while 400 others have been injured during a bombardment targeting Khan Shaikhoon town of Idlib’s countryside. According to sources, the Syrian governmental fighter jets threw bombing barrels containing sarin gas.
Head of Syrian opposition government said that the governmental fighter jets used sarin gas against Idlib, saying that this material is possessed by Damascus’ regime. He called the international community to take international resolution against the Syrian regime upon International law. He signaled that the bombarded area has no enough hospitals to receive the injured people.
Sources told the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that a large number of people suffer from suffocation and faint, while others had foam coming out from their mouth, describing it as a clear sign that the Syrian jet launched a gas attack.
More than 60 others were wounded following the air strikes on the town of Khan Sheikhoun, in the south of rebel-held Idlib, said the Observatory, a British-based war monitoring group.
Mounzer Khalil, head of Idlib's health authority, said the attack had killed more than 50 people and wounded 300, according to Reuters.
Syrian regime, led by President Bashar al-Assad repeatedly denied attacking their people by any chemical means during the six-year civil war.
The army "has not and does not use them, not in the past and not in the future, because it does not have them in the first place," the source said.
Pictures of the wounded and killed bodies from the Syrian town went viral on social media, and rescue workers hosing down almost naked children squirming on the floor, allegedly following the Syrian jets attacks.
A joint inquiry for the UN and the global chemical weapons watchdog has previously accused government forces of toxic gas attacks in 2013.
The Syrian civil war was ignited 2011, following wide protests demands the leave of President Bashar al-Assad. The conflict now is between Assad’s government, helped by Russia and Iranian-backed militias, against a wide array of rebel groups, including some supported by Turkey, the United States and Gulf monarchies.
On the other hand, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Errolt called for holding an urgent meeting for the UN Security Council to discuss the attack conducted by the Syrian regime against Idlib controlled by the Syrian opposition. He added that the attack led to a large number of victims, stressing the need for taking serious action against the Syrian regime.
He added, “In the light of such serious actions, I call the different parties for bearing their responsibilities towards the Syrian people.” He added that he demands the UN Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the current situation in Syrian in the light of the current violations committed by the Syrian regime.
