Benghazi's leading security official Salah Howeidi survived an attempt of assassination, as Spokesperson Waleed Orfi revealed that the security official has been injured during the explosion of a car bomb targeting him. The failure attempt comes days after the attempt to assassinate Head of Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al Sarraj.
The assassination attempt comes after the exclusion of Howeidi from his position by the temporary government led by Abdullah Al Theni working under the sponsorship of internationally-recognized parliament located in the eastern side of the country.
On the other hand, UN Envoy to Libya Martin Kobler expressed his support for the efforts exerted by Libya's neighboring states to resolve the Libyan crisis. He said, in statement to journalists after his meeting with Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis Al Jehanawy, that Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria exert increasing efforts to achieve coordination between the Libyan conflicting parties.
He added that the talks he conducted with the Tunisian official focused on the results of the meeting held between the foreign ministers of Libya's neighboring states, as they pledged to resume their efforts to achieve national reconciliation in Libya and to resolve the Libyan crisis in the framework of national dialogue sponsored by the United Nations.
The three countries stressed their support for the Libyan national dialogue, with no exclusion to any political party regardless of political directions. They renewed their refusal to any military action or foreign intervention in the Libyan internal affairs.
On the other hand, an armed group attempted to kidnap Mayor of Sabrata, as a security source revealed that a number of militants stormed the town headquarters terrorizing the employees. They opened the fire on them randomly, while their motivation has not been known.
According to the sources, the local official faced threats from armed groups over claims about his support for other competitor militants. It added that many residents called him to resign from his position due to his failure to meet their aspirations.
