Algeria elections
Algeria - Rabia Khreis

The unofficial results of the counting of votes in 31 provinces of Algeria revealed the progress of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's party at the expense of its rival the National Democratic Rally, led by Director of the Presidential Office, Ahmed Ouyahia. According to the unofficial statistics leaked from the Algerian Interior Ministry on Friday.

According to the leaks, Algeria's ruling National Liberation Front (FLN) managed to gain 93 parliamentary seats, while its rival in the arena won the National Democratic Rally, the country's second political group, with 58 seats. However, The Unionist Alliance, which includes both the poles of change and the Peace Community movement, the largest Muslim Brotherhood organization in Algeria, ranked third with 29 seats.

Algeria’s Rally of Hope, led by former Algerian minister Ammar Gul, managed to achieve surprise through gaining a large number parliamentary seats to be one of the first five parties after running for the parliamentary elections held on Thursday in all Algerian governorates. Algerian People's Movement, led by former trade minister Amara Ben Younis, won six seats and is facing a political collapse, especially in the predominantly Amazigh tribal region.

Algerian Interior Ministry on Thursday postponed the announcement of the final voting percentage in the first legislative elections since the amendment of the constitution last year to Friday noon, saying that the counting process has not been completed in a number of Algerian governorates.

The statement issued by the Interior Ministry raised a state of controversy among the country’s politicians, as leading member of Peace Community movement Noman Laour said that the decision to postpone the announcement of elections results is not justified or logic.

In a press statement, Algerian Interior Minister Nour Al Din Badawy said that the participation rate in the Algerian parliamentary elections reached to nearly 34 percent, as the Algerian authorities were aspiring to increase the percentage of participation among the Algerian citizens in the different provinces of the country.
