Fierce clashed erupted between government Yemeni forces backed by the Arab Coalition and the Houthi rebels supported by armed forces loyal to former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh in the coastal city of Mokha.
Media activist Rashad El Mahwary said that the Yemeni government troops launched attacks against the sites of Houthi militias and Saleh’s forces in the eastern area of the strategic city. He added that the governmental troops prepare currently for another attack on Khaled Bin Waleed camp which is considered one of the major strongholds of Houthi group.
Mahwary continued that the Arab Coalition warplanes held airstrikes on the camp, in preparation to the ground attack of Yemeni forces.
On the other hand, the Houthis and Yemeni forces exchanged fire and shelled some sites, leaving causalities on both sides.
In the last week, the Saudi-led coalition announced that they managed to fully liberate the Yemeni city of Mokha from the Houthi militias, as the recent battles allowed the Arab coalition, Yemeni forces and popular resistance to strengthen their fronts.
Mokha is a port city on the Red Sea coast of Yemen, 90km away from Taiz and its population reached 30 million people. It was famous for being the major marketplace for coffee from the 15th century until the early 18th century.
