Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Mohamed Abdel Atti returned here Wednesday coming from Tanzania after a four-day visit where he participated in a celebration held on the occasion of digging 30 groundwater wells funded by the Egyptian government.
The wells aim at providing drinking water in three isolated provinces in Tanzania.
Abdel Atti pointed out that the project was implemented by one of the Egyptian firms with a cost of $ 900,000 within the framework of an agreement inked between the Egyptian Irrigation and Water Resources Ministry and its Tanzanian counterpart in December 2009.
According to the agreement, 70 wells will be dug in the African country to offer clean water for the most needy provinces.
For his part, the Head of Nile Wwater Sector Ahmed Bahaa Eldin said that the ministry has dug 30 wells during 2007-2009.
Meanwhile, the venture highlights Egypt's keenness on developing the Nile basin countries especially Tanzania.
During his visit to the African country, Abdel Atti met with his Tanzanian counterpart and probed cooperation between the two nations in the water resources field.
