Organisation of Islamic Cooperation
Jeddah - Arab Today

The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen, has strongly condemned the series of suicide attacks carried out by suspected members of Boko Haram on Sunday and Monday, 25th and 26th June 2017 respectively, in Maiduguri town, including the University of Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria.

More than 13 people were killed while dozens were injured in the incidents.

The OIC Secretary-General who was appalled by the nature and succession of the attacks, described the suicide incidents as "heinous and despicable acts that negate Islamic values which uphold the sanctity of human life, especially at a time when Muslims are celebrating the Eid festival."

Dr. Al Othaimeen extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the people and government of Nigeria over this tragedy, and urged the government to intensify efforts in bringing all those responsible for this reprehensible act to justice.

He further reiterated the principled position of the OIC that "vigorously denounces all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all forms and manifestations, just as it categorically rejects any justifications for terrorism."
