Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, accompanied by a group of ministers, headed for Gaza Strip on Monday, on a visit, his first since 2015, Palestinian sources said.
Hamdallah will take over government responsibilities from Fatah after the latter agreed to disband the administrative committee formed in March to run the enclave.
Hamdallah is expected to hold a press conference after his arrival.
The Palestinian government will hold its full cabinet meeting on Tuesday to officially assume its duties in the Strip in implementation of the understandings reached earlier in the month under an Egyptian sponsorship.
Fatah and Hamas have been at loggerheads since Hamas violently controlled Gaza in June 2007 with the two groups operating separate administrations. But earlier this month, Hamas agreed to dissolve the administrative committee and hold elections.
