The people of North and South Korea are longing for a reunification, former Indonesian president Megawati Soekarnoputri stated in Jeju, Tuesday.
This statement was made considering the fact that the people of Jeju Island, South Korea, continue to send their oranges to North Korea.
"I am very happy to know about the Jeju peoples efforts to introduce their oranges in North Korea. It demonstrates that people on both sides are still longing for a reunification," Soekarnoputri noted.
Soekarnoputri is optimistic that peace between the two Korean nations would be established, as South Korean President Moon Jae-in had urged her to help in the reunification process.
During the next four months, Soekarnoputri will depart for North Korea to start a reunification dialog.
As the daughter of Soekarno who had sound relations with his North Korean counterpart Kim Il Sung, Soekarnoputri is also respected by North Koreas current leader Kim Jong-un.
On Monday (May 29), she had paid a courtesy visit to meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the Blue House. On the occasion, both leaders discussed some important issues, including the request for Soekarnoputri to serve as a peace envoy for the reunification of North and South Korea.
She was also appointed as the Asian representative to spread the message of peace at the annually held "The Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity." (*)
