UK Prime Minister Theresa May
London - TASS

UK Prime Minister Theresa May asked the British public to support her cabinet’s draft Brexit deal with the European Union in an open letter, published by the media on Saturday night.

"On 29 March next year the United Kingdom will leave the European Union. We will then begina a new chapter in our national life. I want that to be a moment of renewal and reconciliation for our whole country. It must mark the point when we put aside the labels of ‘Leave’ and ‘Remain’ for good and we come together again as one people. To do that we need to get on with Brexit now by getting behind this deal," May said.

She said that during the emergency EU summit in Brussels on Sunday, she would press for the document’s approval by the leaders of other 27 EU member states. After that, she would be "campaigning with my heart and soul" to win the vote in the UK parliament, which is required for the deal to come into force.

According to the prime minister, the terms of UK withdrawal from the EU, specified in the deal, will "work for the whole country and all of our people," regardless of whether they voted to leave the European Union or to remain a member.

Earlier this month, the draft agreement on terms of United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU (Brexit), approved by London and Brussels on November 14, unleashed a fiery political fallout and prompted two ministers and six deputy ministers and assistants to tender their resignation last week.

The UK prime minister, however, reacted to those developments in a composed way, saying that she was set to finish what she had started and reiterating that the 585-page draft agreement fully corresponds to the country’s interests
