Emad Belhaj Khalifa
Tunis - Hayat Al Ghanemi

Spokesperson of Internal Security Forces Federation Emad Belhaj Khalifa said that the main objective of the extremist actions committed in Tunisia is to create a state of confusion among the security and military forces. He warned of the repercussion of the recent attacks witnessed in the country on the current transitional phase.

He added, during an interview with “Arabs Today”, that the plans of extremists depend on gradual moves starting with training their elements, carrying out bombing operations in the mountainous areas and committing terrorist actions in the residential cities. He added that the governmental authorities should work to restructure the state security authority due to its critical role in dealing with such groups.

He called the Tunisian authorities for forming a national security agency to supervise the financial support that the charity organizations receive from abroad, stressing the need for activating the terrorism law after the withdrawal of chapters contradicting with human rights.

He blamed the lack of information for the current imbalance of security performance, saying that the absence of information over the objectives and plans of the extremist groups undermines their efforts to confront their terrorist actions aiming to destabilize the country.

He criticized the decision to dissolve the state security authority, describing it as mistake, as it served the extremists’ plans to target the security institution and opened the door for them to intensify their presence in the residential areas and on the Tunisian borders with the other countries.

He blamed the state of frustration that dominated the security authorities in the country after the revolution for current security deterioration witnessed in the country, saying that the security leaders and their families received increasing threats immediately after the Tunisian revolution that led to the toppling of former Tunisian regime.

He attributed the recent terrorist actionIs to the absence of information, stressing the need for restoring the state security authority. He added, “It was the biggest mistake committed by the Tunisian government to dissolve this authority which was performing a major role to provide the information to the security authorities.”
