US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump had historical talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi late Monday on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly, said Walid Phares, a foreign policy advisor to Trump.
Trump was keen on meeting with Sisi, for whom he has admiration due to his ability to fight terrorism in the chaotic Middle East, Phares said in statements after the get-together.
Trump is also pleased with the way Sisi has been able to protect Egypt's borders in Sinai, Phares added.
He touched upon Sisi's calls for adopting a moderate Islam in cooperation with Al Azhar as yet another reason why Trump was keen on meeting face to face with the Egyptian leader.
Trump intends to refer to Congress a draft resolution designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group, if he wins the presidential election, Phares further said.
The meeting between Trump and Sisi also focused on the latest regional developments and efforts to revive the peace process, Phares added.
